And it shouldn’t but it does
Life’s full of wonderful contradictions. Things seldom mean what we want them to and then we look for ways to construct the meanings that we want. When it’s so difficult to strip all artifice away and be truly honest with ourselves, how can we ever expect to be truly honest with someone else?
Honesty, real and brutal honesty is as cruel and stark as a looted corpse stripped bare. There is nothing left but pure vulnerability. No mechanism by which to protect or preserve oneself. And so it’s easier to lie. To lie to ourselves. To lie to others. Little white lies laid down next to one another until a safe wall is built. Something to shelter in the lee of.
I don’t know if this makes us cowards for lying or smart for taking the shelter.
